Job Description

IDEAL ELECTRIC COMPANY, a 122 year-old, independent American manufacturer of high-power, specialty electric motors, generators, power systems and controls seeks an experienced welder who is a highly organized self-starter capable of working in a fast-paced, multi-disciplined team environment with the ability to manage competing priorities to achieve company goals while upholding a culture of ethics, integrity, and excellence in everything we do.

OVERVIEW :  The Welder supports production objectives through understanding welding principals and extensive knowledge of various welding types.  The position works closely with the Production and Engineering teams to ensure welding processes are performed in accordance with prints and order specifications.  This full-time role is based in Mansfield, OH.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform all types of welding, high and low temperature brazing of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, torch cutting, plasma cutting, rolling, braking, nibbling, punching, shearing, and sawing of a variety of parts, castings, forgings, fabrications, and subassemblies; may perform maintenance welding and tooling welding when required
  • Program and operate CNC Oxy-Fuel/Plasma Table
  • Repair defective welds, cracks, castings, and fabrications
  • Perform stress stabilizing on parts processed in welding department
  • Grind defects and over-welds, and remove flux to support the quality of all welds
  • Perform minor machining tasks including layout, pre-drilling, tapping parts for sub-assemblies
  • Perform layout on parts processed through the welding department
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES
  • High School diploma or certified equivalent.  Welding certification(s) preferred.
  • Experience in a variety of welding disciplines including, but not limited to, torch cutting, plasma cutting, rolling, braking, punching, shearing, sawing.
  • Ability to read prints, charts, tables, sketches, and specifications
  • Experience using forklift, overhead cranes and other lifting devices is helpful
  • Teamwork approach with excellent communication skills
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving capability
  • Exceptional attention to detail and time-management skills

WORKING CONDITIONS AND WORK HOURS
  • Daily minimum of 8 hours. Weekly 40 hour minimum.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours and overtime, and occasional weekends, holidays, and nights
  • This role may occasionally use standard office equipment such as phones, computers, copiers/printers

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee:
  • is regularly required to talk, hear, read, and write
  • is frequently required to stand, walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, or crouch
  • is occasionally required to climb, and/or balance and work from ladders/stairs at heights of up to 15 feet
  • must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unrestricted
  • must be able to exhibit specific vision abilities required by this job which include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
