This position is located in the city of  Lancaster .

Under the general supervision of Staff Service Manager I ,  the Support Services Assistant – Interpreter (SSA-I) performs a wide range of interpreting services to support the needs of deaf or hard of hearing employees.  

American Sign Language interpreting for professional meetings, telephone calls, one-on-one meetings, other departmental employees, training sessions, departmental operations, inter-departmental meetings, conferences and public meetings or events. Travel may be required to assist with interpreting assignments outside of DOR’s home office.

May assist employees with miscellaneous work-related tasks. Obtain and utilize resource materials related to the field of interpreting to ensure skills maintenance and/or improvement necessary for the job.

Working Conditions

As an SSA-I your work schedule is based upon the needs of the employee for whom you act as a reasonable accommodation.  As an intermittent employee you may also be asked to report for work when another SSA-I is absent.  SSA-I positions are always part time with a maximum of 1500 hours per calendar year allowed.

Special Requirements

  • The position(s) require(s) fluency in the American Sign Language language. If the State of California does not have a current record documenting your fluency in this language, you will be required to successfully pass an approved language fluency test prior to being hired.

  • Knowledge of DOR resources and processes, RAM, and federal and state Code of Regulations;
  • High level of organizational skills and office equipment and processes proficiency;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio
  • Knowledge of department's mission and goals;
  • Experience communicating with and providing information regarding DOR services to applicants and consumers
