Job Overview:
We are seeking a qualified Pipe Welder to join our ship repair team. This position involves executing high-quality welding of piping systems in a marine/shipyard environment. The successful candidate will demonstrate compliance with rigorous fabrication, alignment, and inspection standards typical of ship repair yards.
Overall Responsibilities:
Interpret and work from blueprints, isometrics, piping drawings, and welding symbols to layout, fit, and weld pipe systems (including carbon steel, stainless steel, copper-nickel, other alloys).
Perform TIG (GTAW), Stick (SMAW), and/or appropriate welding processes on pipe systems for steam, fuel, water, air, or other shipboard services.
Ensure proper cutting, preparation, beveling, tack welding, root passes, fill-passes and cap welds in accordance with approved procedure specifications.
Install pipe supports, brackets, hangers and anchor points; align pipe runs; fit and secure pipe sections in shipboard and shop environments.
Work under marine ship-repair conditions: inside tanks, under decks, in confined or elevated spaces, on scaffolding or dry-dock settings.
Comply with shipyard and marine fabrication quality and inspection standardsvisual inspections, dimensional tolerances, weld profile control, and non-destructive testing readiness.
Follow all safety protocols: PPE, confined-space entry, fall protection, hot work permits, shipyard environment hazards.
Requirements / Qualifications:
Minimum 3 years of pipe-welding experience in a ship repair, marine fabrication or heavy industrial environment.
Must be a U.S. Citizen .
Must pass a written test (covering blueprint reading, pipe isometrics, welding symbols, fabrication processes) and a tack/weld test (hands-on welding assessment for pipe systems) prior to hire.
Ability to interpret and apply WPS (Welding Procedure Specifications) , follow weld procedure guidelines, understand acceptance criteria (e.g., weld size, penetration, reinforcement, allowable defects).
Physically capable of working in shipyard conditions: lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing ladders/scaffolds, working in elevated/confined spaces, working in shipboard environments with varying lighting, overhead hazards, moisture, and noise.
Familiarity with marine materials and alloys (carbon steel, stainless, copper-nickel) and their welding demands is preferred.
