This is an off-campus , Federal Work Study Program (FWSP) student clerical position, serving as a student intern with the Domestic Violence Victim Assistant Program (DVVAP) within the YWCA organization. This position will work off-campus, primarily at the Oklahoma County Courthouse.
The DVVAP offers assistance in writing Victims Protective Order’s (VPO’s), offering information about VPO’s and court advocacy, education and support. Interns and volunteers will receive education pertaining to the process of filing for a VPO, the different types of VPO’s, the court process for VPO hearings, safety planning for court, VPO follow through and resources available for those filing for VPO’s. Interns and volunteers will have the opportunity to provide direct client contact through court advocacy. Hours per Week 20-25 hours per week, Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm (located off-campus, primarily at the Oklahoma County Courthouse). Department Specific Job Functions The YWCA DVVAP offers interns and volunteers valuable domestic violence training and a range of challenging and personally enriching assignments. Following volunteer orientation, which includes the YWCA mission and philosophy, you will receive additional orientation to the DVVAP. Specific duties include, but are not limited to the following: Interns and volunteers will receive education pertaining to:Interns and volunteers will provide direct client contact through court advocacy.
Additional Position Requirements Include DVVAP Volunteers must maintain the confidentiality of clients and be sensitive to issues of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and harassment. It is required to be a strong oral communicator and a DVVAP volunteer to be open to speaking with all types of people. Your skills will be put towards providing support and information regarding the YWCA’s services and services around the OKC community to clients. Before volunteer’s first time at VPO court, the volunteer must schedule a time to meet with the Director of DVVAP and tour Palomar. Volunteers are required to complete two weeks of observation and shadowing in the courtroom before beginning direct communication with clients. After observation and shadowing, volunteers will be able to begin direct client services in the courtroom with supervision. After two weeks of supervision, volunteers may begin to have direct contact on their own with clients to their own comfortability. All of the previous time frames are subject to change based on the volunteer’s comfortability or the DVVAP Director’s discretion. Enrollment Requirements Fall/Spring Semesters : All student employees must be enrolled at least half-time to be eligible to work any UCO student position. Half-time enrollment for fall/spring semesters is considered 5 hours for graduates and 6 hours for undergraduates. International students must be enrolled full-time to be eligible to work as a student employee. Full-time enrollment is 9 credit hours for graduates and 12 credit hours for undergraduates. Summer Semester : Student employees working regular student positions must be enrolled in at least 3 credit hours to be eligible to work during the summer. Students not enrolled in summer classes must be enrolled in fall classes in order to work during the summer, but they (and the department) will be required to pay FICA taxes. Student employees working FWSP positions must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours (if undergraduate) or 5 credit hours (if graduate) in order to work during the summer in a Federal Work Study Program position. Enrollment Exception : If the number of credit hours needed to graduate is less than the minimum number of hours required for student employment, the student must obtain a letter from their Academic Advisor (stating the number of hours needed to graduate and anticipated graduation date) and submit it to Human Resources. FWSP Requirements To be considered for Federal Work Study Program (FWSP) employment, you must be awarded work study through the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships. Please be aware, the summer FWSP award is a separate application process, and is not included with the fall/spring FWSP award. Contact Financial Aid for more information. Enrollment requirements for FWSP employment are the same each semester. Undergraduates must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours, and Graduates must be enrolled in a minimum of 5 credit hours. If a student is enrolled in their final semester and the number of credit hours needed to graduate is less than the minimum number of hours required for student employment, the student must obtain a letter from their Academic Advisor (stating the number of remaining credit hours needed to graduate and the anticipated graduation date) and provide the letter to the hiring department for submission to Human Resources.
